Yikes!!! Nats Lost seven in a row!!

The Nats started off spring training season with an impressive 10-5, but have lost the last seven to fall to 10-12. I do understand the Grapefruit League means nothing to the real season, but for a team that has been use to losing they need to stop the proverbial "Bleeding".

I think it is important for Nats to end on a positive note these next nine days to leave with a good taste in their “mouth” that they can compete with the others in the daunting National League East.

Not a Bad Start!

The season is only is eight days old, but the Nats look competitive. They are 5-3 after eight games. The starting pitching overall look to be shaping up as a team that can hold their own. The offensive has been adequate, but that will take longer. The only real negative I have seen so far t his spring is the inconsistent bullpen. But in reality is that relief pitching is always a crap shot from year to year.

I am hoping we can win between 70 to 81 one games this year. Keep on playing baseball in the Free World!!

It looks like the Nats are coming to 106.7FM (The Fan). I am soooooooooooooooooo happy!!! I do not have to fight with the AM radio of 1500. I can listen to Charlie and Dave in clarity!!

I was hoping since the Nats came to town that a FM Flagship would be picked up. You can say I am more then Happy!!!

The Nats' bats did not show up once again. It was their second straight game being shut out to the Florida Marlins and this time they lost 1-0. The Nats have not scored a run in the last 21 innings.!!! The good news is that the Nats' pitching has only allowed 3 runs over the last 27 innings. The Nats drop to 40-52 and are still in last place of the NL East.

Pitching:

Craig Stammen took the lost as he pitched six innings while only giving up one run. Joe Peralta pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

Hitting:

The Nats scored no runs on eight hits. It was the second straight game which the Nats out hit the Marlins. The Nats had eight different players which had one hit a piece. The Nats left nine men on base and were 0-9 with runners in scoring position.

The Nats scored four runs in the 6th inning while the their pitching staff shut out the Florida Marlins for a 4 to nothing victory. The victory snapped a two game losing skid; the Nats improve to 40-50 and still are in last place of the NL East.

Pitching:

Stephen Strasburg made it work against the Marlins last night by pitching six shut innings while giving up no runs. Strasburg also added 7 strike outs. The bullpen of Drew Storen and Matt Capps pitched a combine 3 innings of no run relief to complete the shut out of the Marlins.

Hitting:

The Nats scored 4 runs on 8 hits. Adam Dunn led the Nats with two hits. Josh Willingham had 3 RBI with a 3 run double in the 6th inning.

Luis Atilano was sent down to Triple A so he could conitue to pitche over the all-star break. It is believe he will be called back after the break. Justin Maxwell was called up to replace Atilano on the roster.

Stephen Strasburg pitched 6 soild innings as he only gave up one run while striking out 8 in his third victory of the year. Sean Burnett, Drew Storen and Joe Peralta combined for 3 scoreless inning.

Hitting:

The Nats' bats scored 8 runs on 13 hits!! Adam Dunn and Willie Harris both had three hits apiece which led the Nats. It was Dunn's power that ignited the Nats as he had two homers which was his 21st and 22nd of the year combined with three RBI.

Adam Dunn powered the Nats to a 7-6 victory over the SD Padres last night with his 3 homers and 5 RBI. The Nats' bat have heated up in the last two games against the Padres. The Nats are 38-47 and are still in last place of the NL East.

Pitching:

J.D Martin pitched 5.2 innings while giving up 3 runs in first victory of the year. The bullpen once again made it interesting in last night game. The relief pitchers had a 4 run lead, but almost gave it all back in the late innings. The bullpen of Joe Peralta, Sean Burnett, Drew Storen and Matt Capps combined for 3.1 innings while giving up 3 runs. Matt Capps did get his 23rd save of the year.

Hitting:

The Nats scored 7 runs on 9 hits. The Nats were led by Adam Dunn's three hits. Dunn is up to 20 homers this year with his three from last night. Also, Ian Desmond hit his 6th homer last night as he has homered in consecutive games.

Ryan Zimmerman hit his 2nd homer of the game to win the game in walk off fashion against the San Diego Padres, 6-5. The Nats' bullpen gave up the a 5-2 led and wasted Livan Hernandez's strong outing. The Nats improve to 37-47 and are still in last place of the NL East.

Hernandez pitched 7 plus strong innings while giving up 4 runs in a no decision. Reliever Tyler Clifford was credited with his 17th hold despite giving up an unearned run. Sean Burnett blew his first save which was aided by a Ian Desmond's error. Matt Capps earned his 3rd victory of the year by pitching a scoreless 9th inning.

Hitting:

The Nats scored 6 runs on 11 hits. Zimmerman and Micheal Morse led the Nats with 3 hits a piece. Zimmerman homers were his 15th and 16th of the year. Ian Desmond hit his 5th of the year. Zimmerman and Morse both had 2 RBI each.

The Nats got to New York Mets reliever Frankie Rodriquez for 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning to win by a score of 6-5. The Nats bats struggled early by being shut out the first five innings. The Nats would score 6 runs over the last 4 innings! The Nats are 7-4 against the Mets this year. The Nats are currently 36-46 and in last place of the NL East.

Pitching:

Starer Stephen Strasburg struggle with his command during his 5 innings of work as he gave up 2 runs. Reliever Drew Storen pitched two scoreless inning. Tyler Clifford struggled in his .2 inning of work as he gave up 3 runs. Doug Slaten pitched .1 of inning while giving up no runs, but he should thank Matt Capps who picked up the victory as Capps pitched out of trouble caused by Slaten in his 1 inning of work.

The Nats ended last night's lost to the New York Mets, 5-3, in unconventional fashion. The Nats trailing by 2 runs with the tying runners on 1st and 2nd base; Willie Harris representing the winning run at home had a three two count on him with two outs. Mets' reliever Frankie Rodriquez turned around and threw to second base as he picked off Roger Bernadina to end the game. It was a disappointing game because the Nats had trailed the Mets by a score of 5-1 entering the bottom of the 9th inning only to lose in disappointing fashion. Last night the Nats topped the New York Mets in a pitching duel,2-1. The Nats scored two runs in the 7th and 9th inning to complete a comeback and beat the rival Mets. The Nats started off the home stand in good fashion as they are now 35-45 and are still in last place of the NL East.

Livan Hernandez had another great outing. He pitched 7 innings while only giving up one run. Drew Storen pitched a no run 8th inning. Matt Capps picked his first win as he pitched a scoreless 9th.

The Nats lost another led to the O's at Camden Yards. The Nats were able to get a 3-0 led early in the game, but the O's fought back and took the led in the 8th inning which they never gave up.

The Nats are 13-27 after starting the season 20-15. The Nats are struggling with defense, starting pitching and timely hitting. The Nats are losing all different kinds of ways. A good ball club will find a way to win when one facet of their game is not going well, but at this stage the Nats are who they are: A very poor ball club.

I believe a key stat is what is your what is your record in games determined by 3 runs of less.

Before May 14:

3 Runs or less: 16-7
4 Runs of more: 4-8

After May 14:

3 Runs or Less: 10-18
4 Runs or More: 3-9

The Nats showed they could win close games early, but had a difficult time winning in blow outs. The Nats after May 14th have shown they cannot win any type of WAY. The Nats need to start winning game when they can or the Nats' Summer will be a Long ONE!

Another Day...Another Heartache! Nats lose to O's, 6-5.

The Nats once again blew a big lead. The Nats got ahead of the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 5-0, but once again lost by a score of 6-5. The Nats are in a funk and they need to break out of it. The inter league play by the Nats have been terrible. The Nats drop to 33-42 and are in last place of the NL East.

Pitching:

Livan Hernandez gave up 5 runs in 6 innings of work. He had a big lead but gave it all back. Sean Burnett took the lost because of a led off walk as he pitched .2 of an inning while being charged with one run. Drew Storen let in his first inherited runner to score on a wild pitch in his .1 inning of work. Joe Peralta pitched one inning of shut out relief.

The Nats had hitting highlights in the first four innings and a fantastic Nyjer Morgan catch to rob O's Corey Patterson of homer, but in the end it did not matter in the lost. Who did not pitch is the question last night. Starter J.D Martin pitched 4.1 innings while giving up 3 unearned runs. The bullpen of Doug Slaten, Miguel Batista, Sean Burnett, Drew Storen and Matt Capps pitched a combined 4 innings of no runs relief. Tyler Clifford had a terrible game as he took the lost and blew a save as he gave up four runs which 3 were earned in his 1.1 innings of work.

The Nats' bats were once again MIA in a 1-0 lost to the Royals. Stephen Strasburg was the tough luck loser in the pitching match up against the Royals' Brian Bannister. Strasburg gave up 9 hits, but only gave up the one run combined with nine strikeouts in his six innings of work. He once again set a MLB record with 41 strikeouts in his first four starts as a a MLBer. The Nats drop to 33-40 and are in last place of the NL East.

Pitching:

Strasburg was aided by Sean Burnett and Doug Slaten who combined for 3 innings of shut out relief.

Hitting:

The Nats scored no runs on six hits. Adam Dunn led the Nats with 2 hits.

The Nats won another one run game against the Royals, 4-3. It was the Nats second straight victory and a series win. The Nats were led by solid starting pitching and powering hitting for the second straight game. The Nats are currently 33-39 and in last place of NL East.

Pitching:

Luis Atilano pitched 5.1 innings while only giving up one run in his 6th victory of the year. Joe Peralta, Drew Storen and Tyler Clifford all combined for 2.2 innings of shut out relief. Matt Capps got his 22nd save of the year despite giving up 2 runs in his one inning appearance.

Hitting:

The Nats scored 4 runs on 11 hits. Josh Willingham led the Nats with three hits. Willingham his a solo shot homer which was the 100th of his career. Adam Dunn added his 17th homer of the year.

Livan Hernandez combined with bullpen help and two homers topped the Kansas City Royals 2-1. The win snapped the Nats' six game losing streak! The Nats are currently 32-39 and are in last place of the NL East.

Pitching:

Livan Hernandez who won his six game of the year pitched 7 innings while only giving up one run. Tyler Clifford picked up his 15 hold of the year by pitching a scoreless 8th inning. Matt Capps picked up his 21 save of the year as he somehow pitched a scoreless 9th even though Royals had the tying run on 3rd base with less then two outs.

Hitting:

The Nats scored only two runs on four hits but two of those hits were homers. Micheal Morse hit a mammoth of a homer which was his 3rd of the year. Cristin Guzman hit the game winning shot which was his 1st of the year.

It was a long weekend for the Nats against the White Sox. The Nats finally had the lead against the White Sox on Sunday, but it did not last long. John Lannan was not able to get out of the 5th inning without recording an out. The Nats' bats were not lively enough to support the Nats' pitching on this Sunday. The Nats finally fell to the White Sox by a score of 6-3 and were swept.

Pitching:

John Lannan gave up 5 runs on 11 hits in four innings. Miguel Batista pitched 3 innings of shut out relief. Drew Storen gave up one run in two innings of work.

Hitting:

Two Stellar Pitching Performance Result in Heartache.

The Nats dropped the last two game in which they should have won. The Nats got two great pitching performance from Stephen Strasburg and J.D Martin in consecutive days. The Nats lost Friday night in 11 innings by a score of 2-1. Yesterday the Nats were shut out by a score of 1-0. The Nats have scored 1 run in the last 20 innings against the White Sox!! The Nats cannot come up with the timely two out hit to produce runs. The Nats are right now 31-38 and are in last place of the NL East.

Pitching:

Stephen Strasburg was great on Friday Night as he pitched 7 innings giving up one runs and had 10 strikeouts. He also set a MLB record by striking out 32 batters in his first three starts. Tyler Clifford and Matt Capps pitched a combined two inning of shut out relief. Drew Storen took the lost as he gave up one run in two innings.

J.D Martin who took the lost yesterday gave up one run in six innings during the Saturday game. Sean Burnett, Miguel Batista and Tyler Walker pitched a combined 3 innings of shut out relief.

The Nats drop the last two games to the Tiger by the same score,8-3, and were swept by the Bengals. The Tigers just had better pitching and hitting than the Nats. The Nats are currently 31-36 and are in last place of the NL East.

Pitching:

The starting pitching the last two day was not very good. Livan Hernandez and Luis Atilano both took losses in those games. The bullpen was mainly used to get work in for the relievers because of the scores of the games.

Hitting:

The Hitting Star in this series was Adam Dunn while he hit two more homers in the last two games. The timely hitting is non-existent the past couple of games.

The Nats scored early, but John Lannan could not keep the Detroit Tigers' bat down in a 7-4 lost. The Nats took a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the 4th inning, but then allowed two runs which tied the game. The Tiger then took the led for good by scoring 3 runs in the 5th inning. The Nats drop to 31-34 and are in last place in the NL East.

Pitching:

John Lannan pitched only 4.1 innings and allowed 7 runs. The bullpen of Tyler Walker and Sean Burnett pitched 3.2 innings of shut out relief.

Hitting:

The Nats scored 4 runs on seven hits, but all of the runs came in the first 4 innings. Nyjer Morgan and Josh Willingham led the Nats with two hits a piece. Micheal Morse hit his second homer of the year.

Stephen Strasburg took the mound for the second time in his MLB career. He pitched 5.1 innings while only giving up 1 run on a solo shot in the 9-4 win over the Indians. He managed eight more strikeouts, but he did walk 5 on a faulty mound that got to his head. The offense helped out Strasburg by scoring nine runs in Cleveland. The Nats improve to 31-33 and are last place of the NL East.

Pitching:

Strasburg did pick up his second victory of the year. He was aided by Drew Storen who pitched 1.1 innings while not allowing any inherithed runners to score while the bases were loaded with one out. Doug Slaten pitched 1.1 innings of shut out relief. Miguel Batista had one of his worse performances to date. He allowed 3 runs in only .1 inning of work. Tyler Clifford clean up the mess by finishing up the last .2 inning of the game.

Hitting:

The Nats scored 9 runs as they pounded out 16 hits. The Nats were led by Cristen Guzman and Ian Desmond who both had three hits a piece. Adam Dunn and Roger Bernadina both homered in the game. Dunn's homer was his 14th and Bernadina's homer was his 3rd.

The game was set up in the 9th inning as Matt Capps blew his first save of the year as the O's scored two run to tie the game. The Nats are currently 23-22 and tied for 3rd place in the NL.

Pitching:

John Lannan had one of his best start in recent memory as he pitched 5.1 innings and gave up only one run. Drew Storen, Sean Burnett and Tyler Clifford combined for 2.2 innings of shut out relief. Former great UCLA basketball coach had a saying, "Character is revealed not built." I would like to add to that "It is revealed in the most trying times".

I respect Riggs a great deal more then I did before because of the situation with Nyjer Morgan. I saw great character from the Nats' manager. The first reaction was to pull Morgan from the game after his mistake on Adam Jones' inside the park homer. But Riggs thought it through and through. It was not a hasty decision. You cannot be rational when you are emotional. He showed character of a leader and believed in his belief. Morgan's mistake was hideous, but not malicious. Riggs stood by his man and his team stood by him.

We also saw the character of a team yesterday by bonding and supporting Morgan instead of being divided. I believe that will serve the team tenfold in the future.

The Nats must have been singing the late Eddie Rabbit's song ( I love a Rainy Night) because they won a rain shorten 8th inning game which they score the most runs so far this year in a 14-6 rout of the Rockies. Ryan Zimmerman once again hit two homers in game and the Nats pounded out 16 hits. The Nats are currently 20-15 and are in second of the NL East. The Nats also led the NL in the wildcat race.

Pitching:

Starter John Lannan reclaimed his spot in the starting rotation but lasted only 4.2 innings while giving up 4 runs. Miguel Batista pitched 1.2 innings but gave up 2 runs in his relief spot. Doug Slaten picked up his first win as he pitched .2 of an inning without giving up a run. Brian Bruney finally had an effective one inning of shut out relief.

Roger Bernadina had a coming out party against the Mets. You could say he was the difference in the Nats 6-4 victory over the Mets yesterday. He had two homers which one was a a game winner. He also had a defensive gem that saved the Nats a couple of runs! The Nats are currently 19-15 and are in second place of the NL East.

Pitching:

Craig Stammen was not on his A game but he kept his team in the ball game by pitching 5 innings while giving up 4 runs. The bullpen for the Nats was great! Sean Burnett, Tyler Walker, Tyler Clifford and Matt Capps all combined for 4 shut out innings for the Nats. Clifford picked up his league leading seventh win and Capps notched his league leading 14th save.

Hitting:

The Nats scored 6 runs on 11 hits. Bernadina led the Nats with three hits and 3 RBI. Bernadina's homers were not his first two homers of the year, but also the first two of his MLB career. Craig Stammen also showed some "Lumber" as he got two hits and 3 RBI.

The Nats and the Marlins once again got into another close ball game. The Nats took a two to nothing led early in the ball game, but the Marlins came back by tying the game in the top of the 8th inning. The Nats took back the led in the bottom of the 8th with a solo homer by Josh Willingham. Matt Capped closed the deal with his 13th save of the year. The Nats are 17-14 and are tied for second place in the NL East.

Pitching:

The Nats were finally able to outlast the Florida Marlins yesterday. The Nats got the go ahead score in the bottom of the 8th inning when Adam Dunn got hit by a pitch to force in a run. The game was back in forth the whole game, the Nat were able to pull it off in the 8th inning. The Nats are currently 16-14 and in 3rd place in the NL East.

Pitching:

Matt Chico was called up from Harrisburg and did an excellent job as he pitched 5 plus innings while giving up two runs. Miguel Batista did not allow an run in his 1.1 innings of work. Sean Burnett gave up one run in his .1 inning in his brief stint. Tyler Clifford who been very good this year gave up a two run homer to earn his 3rd blown save in his 1.1 innings of relief. Clifford became the beneficiary by gaining his 5 victory of the year by the Nats' win. Matt Capps was Matt Capps as he earned his 12th save in 12 tries in the 9th inning.

Hitting:

The Nats scored 5 runs on eight hits. Cristen Guzman and Josh Willingham led the Nats with two hits apiece. Willie Harris and Josh Willingham both homered in the game. Harris' homer was his 3rd and Willingham's homer was his 5th.

The Nats got great pitching from starter Craig Stammen, but the bullpen faltered in the 8th inning against the Marlins. The game was tied at two in the 8th inning, but the Marlins scored twice to beat the Nats, 4-2. The Nats are currently 15-14.

The Nats and the Braves put on a great show last night! Nats' Scott Olsen and the Braves' Tim Hudson put on a great pitching duel last night. Olsen had 7.1 innings of no hit ball, but could not hold off the Braves in the 8th inning as they got a Craig Heyward two run single to tie the game. But the excitement kept on going as Willie Harris had a walk off single in the bottom of the 9th inning to win the game for the Nats, 3-2.

Pitching:

Olsen did not get a decision for his excellent work of 7.1 innings of great pitching. Tyler Clifford did blow a save, but did get the victory in his 1.2 innings of work.

Hitting:

The Nats did get 3 runs on seven hits. Adam Dunn and Ryan Zimmerman both had two hits apiece to led the Nats. Adam Dunn and Ivan Rodriquez hit homers in last night game. Dunn's homer was his 6th of the year and Rodriquez's homer was his 1st.
